The Front Range in the Southern Rocky Mountains

The Front Range, the easternmost portion of the Southern Rocky Mountains extends for 300 miles (500km), from near Casper (southeastern Wyoming) to Fremont in south central Colorado. It is 40 to 50 miles wide. It includes the Medicine Bow and Laramie mountain ranges, as well the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that usually stretch further south. Native Americans inhabited the Front Range in the past.

Colorado's mountains are long

One of Colorado’s most well-known natural wonders, the San Juan Mountains is a long mountain range. The San Juan Mountains are 150 miles long and cover thirteen counties. There are 13 fourteeners. Among the notable peaks of the San Juan Mountains are Mt. Sneffels (14,308-foot Uncompahgre) and Handies Peak. Rout National Forrest is another popular mountain range. It is home to sugar beet farming

The Front Range is home to a rich history of sugarbeet agriculture. In the late 1800s, beet farming was a source of employment for South Asian and Japanese immigrants. German-Russian immigrants were employed for their gardening skills, and their numbers grew until they represented a sizable percentage of the workforce. In the early 1900s the sugar industry also employed migrants from Mexico. These workers were often encouraged to work with entire families.

The Front Range is located in the Southern Rocky Mountains and covers central Colorado as well as southeastern Wyoming.
